over the hill Field kit

7 tools, all in your inventory from the start. You cannot buy more, and none of them are stashed in the world. A truck carries them in tool slots: 1 at stock, up to 4 after the tool slot upgrades. Each slot is one use. It refills the next time you reach the Mechanic, drive into a cabin, or respawn at a cabin.

You pick the loadout at the Mechanic. The same tool can fill more than one slot, up to the number you own. Repair kits, portable winches, planks and Meteorite Radars come in threes. The jack, camp tool and Cloud Clearing Bell come as one each.

All tools

ToolYou ownWhat it does
Repair kitRepair kit3Repairs a vehicle to full (100 of 100 health). Works on your own vehicle or a teammate's within 20 m. It immediately stops that annoying squeak and restores peak performance.
Portable winchPortable winch3Sets a winch anchor on the ground where there is nothing to hook onto. It has to be within your winch reach (10 / 11.5 / 13 / 15 m, see Winch upgrades). When you need a helping hand the most, it's there for you!
JackJack1Flips your vehicle upright and moves it to a spot you pick, up to 7.5 m away. The spot needs about 2 m of clear ground and can't be right next to a tree. Ended up upside down? Flip your car upright and reposition it nearby.
PlanksPlanks3Lays a pair of 8 m wooden planks up to 10 m away, for crossing gaps or getting grip on bad ground. Place a set of two wooden planks in a radius around you. Useful for crossing gaps and gaining traction on otherwise rough terrain.
Camp toolCamp tool1Sets up camp. Time skips 12 in-game hours in about 44 seconds, and every vehicle in the session is repaired by 25 health. Using the camping kit while all players are together allows you to set up camp. Camping quickly advances time, helping you skip unfavorable weather or lighting conditions. It also slightly repairs your vehicle.
Meteorite RadarMeteorite Radar3Puts the nearest meteorite that has landed on your compass, at any distance. If none has landed, or you are already tracking one, it tells you so and isn't used up. The meteorite radar can help you find meteorites!
Cloud Clearing BellCloud Clearing Bell1Turns the weather clear for everyone right away. Not used up if it is already clear. Clears the skies of bad weather for a set amount of time.

Which tool

Jack×1

Jack — upside down or wedged. Flips the truck upright and moves it up to 7.5 m, onto about 2 m of clear ground that is not against a tree. You own one.

Portable winch×3

Portable winch — nothing in reach to hook. Drops an anchor on the ground inside your winch reach: 10 m stock, then 11.5 m, 13 m and 15 m on the winch stages. You own three.

Planks×3

Planks — a gap, a ditch, or ground with no grip. Places a pair of 8 m planks up to 10 m away. You own three.

Repair kit×3

Repair kit — the truck is badly damaged. Restores 100 of 100 health on your truck or a teammate's within 20 m. You own three.

Camp tool×1

Camp tool — you want a different hour, or a little health on every truck. Skips 12 in-game hours in about 44 seconds and restores 25 health on every truck in the session. You own one. Everyone has to be together to set it up.

Cloud Clearing Bell×1

Cloud Clearing Bell — the sky is the problem, not the clock. Clears the weather for everyone at once, and is not used up if it is already clear. You own one. It does not skip the night. The camp tool does.

Meteorite Radar×3

Meteorite Radar — you need more Pebbles. Points the compass at the nearest meteorite that has already landed, at any distance. If none has landed, or you are already tracking one, it tells you and is not used up. You own three.

Slots and refills

  • Using a tool empties that slot. The jack, portable winch, planks and camp are spent only when you confirm the spot.
  • Empty slots refill at the Mechanic, on arrival at a cabin, and when you respawn at a cabin.
  • Tool Slot 2 costs 25 Pebbles, Tool Slot 3 costs 50, and Tool Slot 4 costs 75. Each needs the previous slot on that truck. The three of them are 150 Pebbles, and they belong to the truck you bought them for.

Meteorites

Meteorites are the Pebble income that keeps coming after the one-time map and photo rewards. An area holds 2 or 3 at a time. The first ones are already on the ground when you arrive. After one is pulled out, another is lined up within 10 seconds and falls 1 to 5 minutes later at a random spot. Each spot is used once per visit. When the area runs out, nothing else falls until you take a portal or load the area again.

Landing spots: Emerald Lake 34, Gimli Ridge 31, Asgard Mountain 51, Tassili n'Ajjer Desert 48, Aurès Mountains 48.

To pull one out, hook on as many winches as its size needs, one per vehicle. It comes free after 8 seconds of pulling, counted only while every rope is tight and no two ropes are more than 120° apart. The Pebbles are split between everyone who had a winch on it and anyone else within 10 m, rounded up. You can drive solo or with up to three friends, so a session is 1 to 4 trucks. Bigger meteorites fall when more players are in, and each share stays close to the same.
