over the hill Mechanic
16 upgrades, in 7 lines, bought at the Mechanic with Pebbles. An upgrade stays on the truck you bought it for. Switch trucks and that truck is still stock. Every truck can take every line. One full set is 675 Pebbles. The garage has 21 trucks, so buying the set on all of them is 14175 Pebbles.
Buy a line in order. The first stage has no requirement. The next stage needs the one before it on that same truck. After you own a stage, taking it off and putting it back on costs nothing.
Line totals: Engine 75, Protection 75, Suspension 75, Tyre 75, Tool slot 150, Water resistance 75, Winch 150. Tool Slot 4 and Winch Stage 4 are the only stages at 75 Pebbles. The other stages are 25, then 50. Trail, crate, cabin, scenic, meteorite and photo rewards are what pay the Pebbles.
Before you buy anything, a truck has the stock row of each line: class engine tier 1, 100 health at full impact damage, its own suspension travel, the grip of its tyre type, 1 tool slot, the lowest air intake (the engine floods after 8 seconds under water), and a 10 m winch. Tool slots carry the field kit.

Engine stages by class
The engine comes from the truck's class, so every truck in a class gets the same torque, power and top speed. Top speed here is the limiter. Stage 2 and Stage 3 are the two paid engine upgrades.

Suspension and air intake
Suspension Level 2 adds 8 cm of travel. Suspension Level 3 adds 16 cm. Both add to the stock travel below, and the add is the same on every truck. Water Resistance moves the air intake among three fixed heights on that truck. The heights do not rise with the suspension. Flood time is 8 seconds at stock, 10 seconds at Water Resistance 2, and 12 seconds at Water Resistance 3, counted while the intake is under water.

Crash damage and repair
Only crashes deal damage, and Protection is the only upgrade that reduces it. Every truck has 100 health. A hit at 5 m/s (18 km/h) or slower does nothing. Faster hits start at 4.5 damage and add about 1 for each extra m/s, up to 28.5 at 30 m/s (108 km/h) and above. After a hit that deals damage, more hits are ignored for 2 seconds. Protection Stage 2 multiplies the hit by 0.85. Protection Stage 3 multiplies it by 0.70.
| Impact | Stock | Protection Stage 2 | Protection Stage 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6 m/s, 22 km/h | 5.5 | 4.6 | 3.8 |
| 10 m/s, 36 km/h | 9.3 | 7.9 | 6.5 |
| 15 m/s, 54 km/h | 14.1 | 12 | 9.9 |
| 20 m/s, 72 km/h | 18.9 | 16.1 | 13.2 |
| 25 m/s, 90 km/h | 23.7 | 20.1 | 16.6 |
| 30 m/s, 108 km/h | 28.5 | 24.2 | 19.9 |
| 40 m/s, 144 km/h | 28.5 | 24.2 | 19.9 |
Up to 70% damage the truck drives as usual. Past that, top speed falls toward 50% and engine torque and throttle toward 80% when the damage is full. A fully damaged truck still drives. The Mechanic, driving into any cabin, or respawning at a cabin restores all 100 health. A repair kit does the same, including on a teammate within 20 m. The camp tool restores 25 health on every truck in the session. Restarting a challenge trail puts damage and tools back to what they were when you started it.
The Burro is a Workhorse, so Engine Stage 2 takes it from 175 Nm, 60 kW, 22 km/h to 190 Nm, 66 kW, 25 km/h, and Engine Stage 3 takes it to 207 Nm, 72 kW, 29 km/h.
